Where are you located?
Our animals are raised in the rolling countryside of Cheswick, Pennsylvania. This is a family farm and because our family also lives on the property, we ask that pickups be made by appointment only. Please contact us to schedule a pickup.
What does the term “Pasture Raised” mean?
Simply put, it means that the animal spent its life grazing and living in open, green pasture. Commercial meat is raised using a confinement model. This packs as many animals as possible into a large space. Animals in these environments are highly stressed and require large amounts of antibiotics to suppress disease and promote fast growth. They are also fed a non-natural diet that is geared towards quick weight gain versus a healthy and nutritious end product.
Although pasture raised meat doesn’t mean the same as organic, generally speaking, pasture raised animals are raised in an organic type of environment. They don’t need antibiotics to keep them healthy because they live in a low stress, natural setting. Grazing on pasture in and of itself is about as natural and organic as it comes.
What does the term “Free Range” mean?
“Free range” refers to chickens being allowed to range freely outdoors where they can eat whatever grass, weed seeds, insects and worms they choose. This results in more nutritious eggs and meat for consumers, and more healthy, humane conditions for the birds.
How do I order something that comes in variable-weight packaging, like a roast?
All meats are sold by the package, and unless otherwise specified, are in 1-pound packages. If you order a roast or whole bird, the price you’ll pay when you initially make your order is the price for the average sized package. If the size of your roast or bird is more than 10% different than the average, we’ll issue a credit or an amount due on your account.
What if the cut of meat I ordered isn’t available?
Generally speaking, we will substitute a similar cut of equal value. For example, if flank steak is not available, we’ll substitute skirt steak. Pot roasts will be either neck, chuck, or arm roast, depending on availability.
If you absolutely must have the exact cut you order, please make a note in the comments section of the order form.
